Exploring Individual Creativity

Exploring Individual Creativity Workshop with Rita Duffy, visual artist.

This workshop delivered over two days will cover technical and practical advice.  It will explore, challenge and prize open the possibilities of drawing and painting.   This workshop is for anyone who wants to challenge themselves using the visual arts as a medium. It is suitable for artists and those who are interested in exploring their creativity using drawing and painting as the medium.

Born in Belfast, Rita Duffy is a leading Irish artist. Based strongly in the figurative/narrative tradition, her paintings often function as active poetic spaces where the energy of contradictory and destructive forces are transmuted and resolved. Her work has evolved out of a Belfast context heavily inscribed by the visual components of social, political and national affiliations where meaning is not neutral. Duffy’s experience resulted in a strong commitment to make art about what was going on around her –an art that was personal, but fused with a subversive, humorous, political sensibility. “This decision to ‘start where you are’, to honestly root myself at the juncture of where the subjective, questing self encounters the seething political certainties of the external world is at the heart of my art practice”.

Although firmly committed to studio work, her practice now extends to include sculpture and installation work as well as collaborations with architects, poets and filmmakers. Over the past twenty years she has generated numerous socially engaged projects and has designed a series of permanent and temporary public art projects in a wide range of locations and settings throughout Ireland, Britain and beyond.
