AT The Edge, Cavan has received funding from Cavan Arts Office for a third year. This year, nine celebrated readers from across the country, North and South, will wing their way to Cavan to read and share in Cavan’s popular literary evening in May, August and October.
Jane Clarke, Alan McMonagle, Evan Cos will read in May. Recent Shine Poetry Award winner, Breda Wall Ryan, Marie Cadden and Colin Dardis will read in August and more local poets and writers, Iggy McGovern, John Kelly and Freda Donoghue will read in August. Each AT The Edge, Cavan reading will be followed by an open mic.
AT The Edge, Cavan enables to provide local people with the opportunity to hear published writers and poets read. It provides a professional space to enable aspiring poets and writers to read their own material and provides a space for local writers and poets to network and build contacts. It also ensures a strong literary and engaged presence in Cavan.
“AT the Edge was a great experience for me as a visiting poet in August 2015. Kate was very warm and welcoming but also very professional in her running of the event. She fed, housed and chaperoned her three guest writers and managed the reading beautifully. She also assembled a loyal and engaged audience and 'open mic' crew, even on a very wet night at Cavan library. I very much hope to be asked back again whenever she can fit me in!” Catherine Ann Cullen (Poet)
“AT The Edge is a revelation, its open-minded programming reflected in the open hearts and minds and notebooks of its participants. The sense of a solidarity that enables creativity is palpable.” Harry Browne (Writer/Journalist).”
“Many thanks, Kate, for the opportunity to read as part of the At the Edge series last year. I appreciate the opportunity to read my work to an audience in Cavan, and also to share the platform with poets such as Elaine Feeney and Susan Lindsay. I'm especially grateful to have heard so many local writers with their different voices and approaches, and to have met up with them and exchanged ideas afterwards. I look forward to being part of the series in the future, and wish you and the project every success.” Ted McCarthy, Poet
“Reading in Cavan's At The Edge last year was an immensely positive experience. The enthusiasm of the audience for this event was palpable. I had the feeling that before At The Edge they were drifting along with nowhere to go for poetry, and now they were enjoying every moment. I thoroughly enjoyed being an invited poet.” Nicki Griffin, (Poet).
AT The Edge, Cavan will be held on Tuesday 10 May at 6.30pm, Tuesday 30 August at 6.30pm and Tuesday 23 August at 6.30pm. All events are held in Johnston Library, Farnham Road, Cavan. Everyone is very welcome to attend.
The First AT The Edge, Cavan takes place Tuesday 10 May in the Johnston Library at 6.30pm followed by Open Mic. We have Jane Clarke reading (she won the Hennessey Emerging Poet award last week), Alan McMonagle who writes fascinating short stories, and Evan Costigan whose poetry is quite lovely. Hope to see you there. Sign up with me to read at the open mic afterwards on the night.
