Following its sell-out success at the Festival of the Dead, the primal and haunting ‘Ritual’ returns to Townhall Cavan for three nights from Friday, 18th – Sunday, 20th November, with an additional matinee show on Sunday at 3pm.
From the weird and wonderful mind of two-time RTÉ PJ O’Connor award-winning playwright Philip Doherty, this dark spectacle will feature music, dance, and theatre. Marrying ancient tradition with modern performance art, ‘Ritual’ will captivate and enthral, as the living and the dead embrace the night as one.
Starring Hugh O’Brien, Patrick O’Donnell and Annie June Callaghan, and with a score by Robert Perry (Dead Can Dance), this is a magical and haunting new myth telling the tale of two lovers from the world of the living and the underworld. It is bleakly comic and mysterious; different to anything Doherty has written before; more solemn, more darkly romantic. The Gaelic festival of Samhain is traditionally paganistic, rich and dark, and the solemnity of these ancient rites will be mirrored in this stirring piece.
‘Ritual’ takes place at Townhall Cavan on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 18, 19 and 20 November at 8pm. Doors open at 7.30pm. Tickets are available at Multisound Cavan, by phone on 049-4361312 or online here.
