'A Portrait of This Region' by artist Johanna Nulty

The first solo exhibition by emerging artist Johanna Nulty at Townhall Cavan Arts Space opening on Saturday 8th April 2017.

Local artist Johanna Nulty invites the public to join her for the opening of her first solo show titled “A Portrait of the Region”.  In this exhibition Nulty presents a series of sculptural assemblages made from an assortment of items collected from people in her hometown of Cavan. Each artwork is titled with a local Cavan surname.

Taking Objects as signifiers of how we live Nulty explores the potential of these objects together to form “Multiple personas”. “By reconfiguring household goods into abstract or figurative forms, I liberate them from being functional objects and allow them to develop new identities in unfamiliar settings.”

A recent graduate of I.T. Sligo, Johanna was a successful recipient of the Bullock Lane Residency at Townhall Cavan Arts Space in 2016. Speaking about her time on the residency she said: “I am very appreciative I got this opportunity when just finishing my BA honours Degree in Fine Art from I.T Sligo and before commencing my Masters Studies.   Townhall is a magnificent art space. Everyone is really welcoming and very supportive.”

Johanna Nulty will exhibit “A Portrait of the Region” at Townhall Cavan for three weeks in April 2017 with an opening event on Saturday 8 April.  She has selected artist Sally O Dowd as mentor and curator for this show.
