Arts Roundup 2017 (Festivals)

Remember the Brave

Festival Of The Dead

The Neon Wake was back in 2017 celebrating the deep relationship of the arts with our many rituals around life and death.   Multiple Frankenstein’s including ‘Jeremy Kyle’ told an alternative version of Mary Shelley’s classic with a balletic performance by Frankenstein himself.  Prometheus Bound with strange half human half animal creatures, musicians and pyro-technic delights against the backdrop of a corrugated iron doomsday version of Townhall, Cavan was simply, audacious.

Swift 350

Mullagh celebrated the birth of Dean Jonathan Swift with Swift 350 with a performance of Talking Through his Hat an enthralling theatrical presentation from Michael Harding based on the work of Swift.  Madeleine Uí Mhealoid with the Fox Family of Quilca House hosted a tour of ‘Swift country, the children at St Kilian’s N.S. responded to the work of Swift with a giant replica of Gulliver and visual and written responses to the work.  St Kilian’s Heritage Centre was honoured with a presentation of a selection of works by Swift from a German patron.
