Bilingual Storytime sessions with Nuala Hayes A Huge Success

 

 

A very successful day in Bailieborough Library and Cootehill Library with Nuala Hayes Bilingual Storytime sessions for Primary School Students on 30 and 31 March 2017.

 

Cootehill Library and Bailieborough Library were delighted to host bilingual (as Gaeilge) storytime sessions for primary school pupils. 

 

Kindly sponsored by Cavan Arts Office, the libraries welcomed Nuala Hayes to entertain the children with her engaging stories and legends.

About The Storyteller

 

Nuala Hayes is an Actor, Storyteller and independent Radio Producer.

 

She trained at the Abbey Theatre and has toured extensively in plays by many of the great Irish Playwrights, O’Casey, Synge, Beckett, Brian Friel and Tom Murphy.

 

Her interest in storytelling began over 20 years ago, when she founded Two Chairs Company with musician Ellen Cranitch to explore words and music in performance including Irish Legends, Myths and Folklore. 

 

Stories have brought her to many parts of the world, including U.S.A, Canada, U.K, Denmark , Spain, Belguim. Poland and most recently to the Outer Hebrides and Potsdam in Germany. She has also been involved the the collection of oral stories in places such as Cape Clear Island and in the Midlands of Ireland.

 

She has collaborated extensively with musicians, including Anne Marie O’Farrell . In 2009, they were received a Deis award, which enabled them to create a music and story performance, based on stories of the Cailleach, the wild woman or Hag of  Irish and Scottish mythology, entitled ‘The Wilder Wisdom of Auld Ones’, which has toured extensively. 

 

She has also collaborated with Artist Rita Duffy, on various projects, including devising a series of “ Shirt Tales” for The Shirt Factory Project during Derry City of Culture.

 

Nuala is the author of Laois Folk Tales, published by History Press Ireland in 2015.

 

She is presently working on a new project ‘Storytelling in Borderlands ”  which will take place in June 2017 along the Border between Co’s Louth and Armagh.
