VISUAL ARTS - ‘Untitled (Black on Grey)’ by Liam Crichton, Friday June 3 to June 25

Opening evening: Thursday June 2nd

Open: Friday June 3rd to June 25th , 11am-5pm Wednesday to Saturday.

Exhibition Title: ‘Untitled (Black on Grey)’ by Liam Crichton

Liam Crichton will create an experimental new installation for his show in Townhall Cavan Arts Space. Based on the Rothko painting of the same name, the work follows in the artists’ developing research into contemporary ideas surrounding the void, the sublime and is in response to the built environment of Cavan Town and County.

Crichton creates large-scale sculptures and installations that investigate physical space. Containing references to and elements of a post-minimal realisation, his aesthetically driven and predominately site specific work is often characterised by a sense of dichotomy that challenges traditional perceptions and cultural surroundings. In an abstract systematic reductive process he breaks down the impression of the familiar to its bare essence. He operates through a non-linear, conceptual and formal vernacular sculptural praxis. Crichton has recently exhibited in Edinburgh, London, Philadelphia, Dublin, and Belfast.

Professional Development workshop in partnership with Visual Artists Ireland, Townhall Cavan Arts Space and Cavan County Council Arts

Description

Whether submitting a commission proposal, working to a project budget or selling your work, it is essential to know how to calculate costs and to have confidence that the price you ask will be sufficient to cover expenses and generate an income and funds for future research and developments during the quiet times.

This workshop will look at basic financial accounting and is simplified into a structure that will assist artists with money matters. It looks at developing a day rate for your work as an artist, building in ongoing overheads into your costings for projects of all kinds whether: workshops; commissions and exhibition fees or pricing individual works of art.

There will be some hands on exercises that Patricia may ask you to do so please do come prepared with pen and paper.
