Vaguely Familiar by Mateusz Lubecki

“Memory is strange, it is imperfect, and it changes all the time. Childhood memories, all merged now into one day, full of images, places, events and objects. The gaps are filled in, unconsciously, by the mind. It’s impossible to distinguish what is true and what isn’t true anymore. Paintings representing memories will represent both what has and hasn’t happened. Paintings representing memories share what is hidden away, connecting the viewer with the painter.”

An exhibition of painting, drawing and print, by an artist Mateusz Lubecki is looking at the intricacies and inaccuracies of memory. Focusing on his own childhood memories Mateusz tries to create two-dimensional images that will represent objects and places from his memory. These images then work like windows to the mind, mirroring the memories and experiences of Mateusz’s childhood in Poland.

Vaguely Familiar opens on 31st October 2015, at 3pm at the Bailieborough Library, and will run until 14th November 2015. All welcome.
