The First Punk in Oldcastle

Run time is 50 minutes but it will be performed alongside other plays - guaranteeing a  night's entertainment for an admission fee of €10.

Paddy is unemployed. His wife has just left him for another woman. His friend is hassling him to join the Mens' Shed. But things weren’t always like this for Paddy. He used to be somebody. He was the first punk in Oldcastle.

Conor Shaffrey is a member of Millrace Drama, Mullagh, Co. Cavan. He has been involved in a number of productions including Portia Coughlan, They Got What they Wanted and most recently Trad by Mark Doherty, in which he played the dual roles of Sal and Fr. Rice which won the All-Ireland Confined Drama Finals 2013. He played the roles of Frank Beirne and Doctor in the Mummers in their recent production of At The Black Pigs Dyke. He also played the role of The Mule in Ramor Players’ production of A Holy Show by Padraic McIntyre. He made his directorial debut last year with Millrace Drama Group’s production of The Cripple of Inishmaan by Martin McDonagh, which culminated in two sell-out shows in the Ramor Theatre in Virginia, County Cavan.

Freda Donoghue is a writer living in Munterconnacht, Co. Cavan. She founded First Wednesdays in 2014 (a monthly theatre event in Farrelly’s Pub, Oldcastle, County Meath) and also runs the film club in the Ramor Theatre. Her work has been performed at Le Chéile, The CO Club and at Chapter One in Cavan, as well as at First Wednesdays.
