Expressions of interest are being sought for the formatting, editing and proofing of Plays Of Ireland’s South East (17 plays) leading to their publication in a book

Deadline for Expressions: Thursday, October 8, 2020.

The Arts Service of Waterford City & County Council is looking for Expressions of Interest for a Proof reader/editor, with document formatting skills, to aid the production of a collection of modern plays from the South East of Ireland. These plays were realised through Waterford Council’s Producer & Playwright scheme and covers the period from 2016 to 2020. (The EOI process is not limited to one person – a team may apply.)

The plays are a mix of one, two and three acts plus an Opera. The majority of works are under 120 minutes in duration.

The successful applicant will be expected to:

  1. Advise on Style and complete a first stage general process edit that puts all the individual plays, and the information about them (Biographies, Stage notes, notes on performances etc), into an agreed common format and document format.
  2. Edit the Biographies, Stage notes, notes on performances etc into a style common to all.
  3. Edit the plays so they follow a standard (agreed) format but without changing the characters dialogue.
  4. Liaise with each playwright about their reformatted play.
  5. Full proofread of the manuscript and submit back to Arts Service (who will liaise with printer)
  6. 2nd proofread (Galley proofs returned from Printer)

Applicants should demonstrate:

  • the ability to take on a literature project and bring it through to a successful conclusion
  • a keen interest in Theatre and the conventions and constraints associated with it and with play scripts

It would be desirable, but not a necessity, to have an understanding of music score (the ability to read and understand music notation)

In the expression of interest the applicant should include:

  • examples of their work or links to samples of their work
  • an up-to-date CV or Biography
  • any extra or relevant skill sets they can employ in the pursuit of the conclusion of this project

The budget for this is €4,000 inclusive of all taxes and general expenses. We expect this process to be carried out remotely.

P.O.I.S.E. deadline for stages 1 to 5 is mid December. Stage 6 is to be confirmed – but will probably be in January or February.

Expressions of Interest should be Emailed to: Conor Nolan : conornolan@waterfordcouncil.ie with EOI POISE in the subject matter.
