Cavan town's Ciarán Cassidy and collaborator Mark Horgan of Second Captains recently won the prestigious Law Society Award for their production for BBC Sounds, ‘Where is George Gibney?’
Strong but compulsive listening, it was selected from 200 entries to win the overall award in the 2021 Justice Media Awards. The judges described the podcast series as “a remarkable piece of journalism and an extraordinary listen”. Investigative journalism at its best, it has led to the reopening of the child-abuse inquiry surrounding one of Ireland’s most famous swimming coaches, who was never convicted despite the numerous male and female victims that came forward.
‘Where Is George Gibney?’ is also an honouree for Documentary Pod, Crime & Justice Pod and won Best Original Music Score/Best Sound Design in the prestigious The Webby Awards 2021, and won the top prize in the ‘Broadcast Journalism' category,
The podcast series is still available here on BBC Sounds.
