Yvonne Cullivan is a professional visual artist with fifteen years experience in studio practice, arts-in-education, public art, participatory arts, advocacy and professional development. She holds a National Dip. in Fine Art and Design from Galway / Mayo Institute of Technology, a B.A. in Fine Art from Crawford College of Art and Design and an M.Sc. in Multimedia from Dublin City University. Yvonne is currently a part-time Lecturer at the National College of Art and Design in both First Year Art and Design and the Media Department.
Working across a broad range of documentary-style media including sound, film, photography, drawing and writing, her practice is underpinned by a strong participatory and collaborative approach. She often works within communities of place and / or communities of interest, rooting the engagement in site-specific research and interdisciplinary knowledge generation. Sustained processes of observation, documentation, collaboration and experiential engagement with place, lead to the reframing and representation of rural and marginal spaces through the creation of new artworks.
Yvonne has exhibited nationally and internationally, in solo and group exhibitions, and has successfully undertaken residencies, commissions and projects in association with a number of local authority councils and established organisations throughout Ireland.
