Wild Clay Workshop

Facilitated by Áine Farrelly and Emma Mc Keagney, the day will consist of an introductory presentation on wild clay sourcing followed by a short talk on the artist’s practice and experience in wild clay.

Participants will be invited out to then dig clay on the land. This area will be predetermined, extensive digging will not be required.

On return to the studio participants will set up the environment to process the clay showcasing the two wet and dry methods. Pre-processed clay will be on hand to test as each method of processing takes time.

There will be an emphasis on knowledge sharing although no experience in clay is necessary.

Áine Farrelly is an artist based in Cavan. Primarily working with clay, her practice employs ceramic techniques including hand building, slip casting and more recently wheel throwing to make domestic sculptures, one-off objects for everyday use. The tools, clay body and process of making dictate the outcome of her work.

Recently returned from Berlin on a Working Artist program, her practice has veered into researching clay bodies delving further into creating objects that reflect their making technique and material.

Emma Mc Keagney is an artist, writer & researcher based in Dublin.

Mc Keagney works in sculpture, photography, video, poetry, fiction, and non-fiction writing. Her research and writing inform her art practice, and both often intertwine to form the basis of her work in exhibitions, publications and online articles – her work oscillates between a research-based practice and an intuitive practice of working with materials.

Mc Keagney has exhibited widely from Helsinki to Dublin and has most recently won a Percent Scheme Sculpture Commission in a National School in Dublin.
