Arts Development Awards 2021 Report form (For Awards from February 2021 - January 2022)

The Arts Awards by Cavan County Council are allocated under the Arts Act 2003.   There are four categories for 2021. 

The Arts Development Awards for community and arts development initiatives.

The Professional Artists Awards which are to support the work of professional artists.

The Emerging Artist Awards which support artists at early career stage.

The Artist Residency Awards  (including The Tyrone Guthrie Bursary and The Moth Bursary to be advertised in Spring 2021) which will support an artist to work intensively on a project in a dedicated arts work space. 

 

In 2020 there were 33 recipients for the Arts Development Awards and 14 recipients for the Professional Artists Awards, 4 recipients for the Emerging Artists and 4 Residency Awards.

ARTS DEVELOPMENT AWARDS

Annually the Members of Cavan County Council allocate funding for the development of arts in community, education and other participative settings.   This money is allocated under the Arts Act 2003.  Organisations, groups or individuals running arts events and projects in County Cavan or promoting the County arts offerings elsewhere between, February 2021 and February 2022 are eligible to apply. 

Groups interested in applying for this funding can apply for the:  ARTS DEVELOPMENT AWARDS.  Grants will vary from €200 to €1,500.  

Examples of work that could be eligible include:

Arts Participation - (e.g. workshops, performance, arts production, etc. involving the general public and/or target groups including digital participation.)

Arts in Settings - (e.g. Artist-led projects in settings such as community, education, health care, landscape, etc.)   

Arts Events - (e.g. stand alone events, events as part of a festival, scheme or community project, etc. including digital).

PROFESSIONAL ARTISTS AWARDS

Annually the Members of Cavan County Council with the support of the Arts Council support professional artists living and working in County Cavan.  This funding is available under the PROFESSIONAL ARTISTS AWARDS.   

Professional artists from all disciplines are welcome to apply to this scheme. Applicants must be originally from County Cavan, reside in the County or artists whose proposed work has a significant Cavan element.  The term “Professional Artist” assumes that you have a substantive body of work created and that you are recognised as such by your peers in the making or developing of the Arts.

Criteria

The Professional Artists Awards are designed to assist artists in relation to any of the following three categories:

Professional Development - (e.g. further training, mentoring, artist and interdisciplinary collaboration, attendance at workshops including digital). Up to €2,500.

New Artworks - (e.g. research and development, residency assistance*, production costs, materials assistance, etc.). Up to €2,000.

Audience Initiatives - (e.g. audience research, digital upskilling, performance and recording development assistance, publication and exhibition assistance, arts practice development in conjunction with arts or community groups). Up to €1,500.

EMERGING ARTIST AWARD

This award is intended to help support an artist develop their career, it is for someone who has specialised training in his or her field (not necessarily gained in an academic institution) and who has created a modest independent body of work. The maximum amount awarded to any applicant will be €2,000.

Criteria

This award is designed to support emerging artists to: 

  • buy time to develop their work and practice
  • support unique development needs to advance their own practice (this might be through engagement with a mentor, research, non-formal study and/or non-vocational training, collaborative partnerships, etc.). Applicants must detail the development need that would most advance their career at this time.

 

It will prioritise those who:

  • demonstrate ambition and vision for their work;
  • show potential to develop and strengthen a distinctive and assured creative practice;
  • show how they will benefit artistically from timely support for their artistic development.

ARTIST RESIDENCY AWARD

 

For 2021 it has been decided to postpone the application process for Residency Awards, Cavan Arts Office will advertise Tyrone Guthrie and The Moth Residencies in Spring 2021.
