Casting Light at Fleadh 2011

Press Release: The visual spectacle in the form of highly luminous projections onto the facade of the Ulster Bank in the centre of Cavan town in conjunction with Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2011 will return from 14th to 21st August. Casting Light was one of the surprise highlights of Fleadh 2010 created by artist John Byrne.

For the 2011 spectacle John, is focusing on the theme of emblems and identity and working with young people from Cavan Community Youth Projects and Lisbellaw Youth Group to tease out and visualise these ideas. The young people from Cavan and Lisbellaw have spent time with John over the summer considering their ideas around identity and how we ‘brand’ ourselves, the images, the interpretations that make us feel comfortable and at home. Cavan and Lisbellaw youths spent time at the Share Centre in team building and skills sharing activities. This facilitated good working relations and enhanced the flow of ideas. John together with youth leaders Natasha Cassidy and Lisa O Neill, Cavan and Rachel Gilmore, Lisbellaw have established great working relationships with the young people from both communities. Michael Smith, Ballinagh provided invaluable support for this project . Casting Light 2011 is a much anticipated element of the Fleadh. The event will be widely disseminated via a web cast after dark and live on the web from 14th to 21st August (approx 9.30pm nightly).

Casting Light
