Peace IV Cavan Youth Arts Lab Celebrates Cruinniú na nÓg

Cavan Youth Arts Lab Painting with Light,

In 2017 Cavan County Council arts office was awarded €160,000 from Peace IV to establish the youth arts lab.   The purpose of the project is to enhance the capacity of children and young people to develop awareness and respect for self and others and to form positive relationships through the arts.   Art form strategies including workshops, training, events and happenings are taking place to further develop the capacity of young people to create and develop cultural memory.

 

The children and young people are showing their work across the county in the run up to and during Cruinniu na n’Og. In Shercock the children have worked with Film maker Colm Mullen on their project painting with light.

Bee Smith, writer and storyteller and Morag Mc Donald Visual artist have worked with teenagers from Templeport foroige club, They explored Land, Identity nature and heritage using the local area and Cavan Burren Park for inspiration producing multi-disciplinary work including writing, weaving, collage and paper making.

Cavan Youth Arts Lab Print and Process at Cavan County Museum 

 

 Exhibition, Sharing Workshop - Printmaking, Visual Art, Performance       

 

Teenagers in ballyjamesduff worked with Printmaker Eileen Ferguson drawing inspiration from collections at Cavan County Museum and making artwork of their own using the printing press. 

 

Calantha Forde and young people from Bounceback, Ballyjamesduff will facilitate a sharing of their process and informal performance of work they are currently creating.

Cavan Youth Arts Lab; “Who we are”.

Exhibition - Sculpture, Digital Art, Visual Art

 

Young people from 8-18 years in Cavan town come together alongside their facilitators, Joanne Behan, Marilyn Pepper, Chris O’ Brien, Heather Brett, Trina McCann and Mary Farrelly to let their work speak for itself. Youth people and their advocates from Youth Advocacy Programme have worked with sculptor Joanne Behan to create and share their clay figures. Marilyn Pepper and her cross community children’s group who meet afterschool from St. Felim’s N.S. and Cavan No1 N.S. are showing their visual art response to shared culture. Chris O’Brien and Big Steps afterschool share their work around the themes of community, identity and home. Heather Brett has been working with young women from the Cavan Traveller Movement on a mobile mural. Mary Farrelly and Trina McCann and their performance group from Cootehill give us a digital snapshot of their dance and drama process in Cootehill.

Cavan Youth Arts Lab; “How we intertwine in paper and textile. ”

 

Exhibition Visual Art, and Origami workshop.

 

Anna West has been working with young people from Kingscourt through a range of material including paper craft, textiles and origami. This work will be on display in Dun an Ri College but also in Baileborough library.
