Irish Writers Centre Information Day in Cavan

 

Cavan County Council arts office will work with the Irish Writers Centre in 2017 to provide a series of workshops and opportunities for emerging and established writers in County Cavan.  

 

An information session will take place on 17 May at 6pm at Townhall, Cavan.   

 

This is also available to writers in neighbouring counties but attendance must be booked by registering with santinaburns@cavancoco.ie or telephone 049 4378549.

6 - 7 pm - IWC info session with Valerie Bistany / Kate Cunningham

 

7 - 9 pm - Creative Clinics/One-to-ones with Mia Gallagher, Pat Boran.

 

7.30 - 8.45 pm - Creative Writing taster session with Louise Phillips.

 

 

Valerie Bistany is a Professional arts manager, producer & event coordinator with 20+ yrs international experience.  Valerie is synthesizing her skills and experience in her work as a Creative Mentor, Mediator & Facilitator, using a methodology developed with arts professionals to promote creative thinking and self-sufficiency in the arts and beyond. She is particularly motivated in supporting artists’ creative processes.

 

 

Kate Cunningham, is Communications Officer with the Irish Writer Centre and co-founder and co-director of the first Women’s Museum of Ireland in a in response to a lack of recognition of women's history in Ireland and to highlight the impact of Ireland’s women writers, politicians, artists, entrepreneurs and change makers on the nation’s history.

 

 

Pat Boran is the author of more than a dozen books of poetry, fiction and non-fiction as well as the popular writers’ handbook, The Portable Creative Writing Workshop. A former presenter of The Poetry Programme on RTÉ Radio 1, he is currently editor at Dedalus Press.

 

 

Mia Gallagher’s debut novel HellFire (Penguin Ireland, 2006) was widely acclaimed and received the Irish Tatler Literature Award (2007). She won the START award in 2005 and has been shortlisted for Hennessy, Fish and Trevor/Bowen Awards. Mia’s new novel Beautiful Pictures of the Lost Homeland will be published this spring by New Island Books.
