Is Linn É: 2016

 

Is Linn É: 2016 Listen to music composed by the children from Corlurgan, Arva, Crossreagh and Milltown National School.

 

 

 

The students at Crossreagh, Arva, Milltown and Corlurgan National Schools recorded their performance of Is Linn É 2016, their response in music to the 1916 Commemorations. The children with their class teachers and directed by Brian Dillon and Liam Mc Cabe worked on this proejct during 2016. They performed for their parents and invited guests at Townhall, Cavan on 21 June. Liam and Brian speaking of the project said "it has been a pleasure working with the Cavan children on this project.   We really enjoyed our time getting to know the County better and the schools we worked with."

 

Noel Monahan, poet visited the schools and brought to the children a sense of the reality of 1916 through poetry, song and personal stories from the archives of the period.

 

About the musicians

Liam Mc Cabe, a native of Bailieborough is a musician who received his musical education at Bailieborough School of Music. Liam is an accomplished musician and plays a range of instruments including guitar, saxophone, violin, clarinet and recorder.

 

Brian Dillon a musician and music teacher from County Tipperary plays clarinet and guitar and teaches music technology. While completing his MA studies in Sonic Art at Queen’s University, Belfast he performed with QUBe Ensemble and Queen’s Chamber Choir.

 

 

This project was part of the official 1916 – 2016 Centenary Programme in Cavan and is funded through Cavan County Council by the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht. This project is an initiative of the heritage and arts offices, Cavan County Council.
