Over a two-week period, a different poet will deliver a masterclass on a theme of their choice.

Week 3: Writing Beyond Your Self with Colm Keegan
Sat 3 Nov • 11AM - 1PM

Who we are is often where we start with writing. But there is so much more to be explored beyond our self and our own experiences. Leave the safe shores of personality behind and push off into the choppy seas of your own imagination.

Week 4: Poetry, Metaphor and the Natural World with Moyra Donaldson
Sat 10 Nov • 11AM - 1PM

Poets have always been inspired by nature, and whether we live in the countryside or in a city, the natural world is part of our vision - it might be the weather, a spider in the bath, a mountain range or a sunset over the rooftops. This workshop will look at examples of classic and contemporary nature poems, and participants will then work on developing their own poem in the spirit of this long tradition.

Week 5: Hearing Voices with Moyra Donaldson
Sat 17 Nov • 11AM - 1PM

This workshop will look at the use of persona in poetry. Using examples from contemporary poets, we will examine how writing in the voice of ‘an other’ can bring fresh perspectives and liberate us to say unexpected things. The session will include group discussion and the creation of new writing. It will also look at the connection between form, content and meaning.

Week 6: Writing For Your Own Mouth with Colm Keegan
Sat 24 Nov • 11AM - 1PM

Poet Polar Bear said Spoken is words written to "fit your own mouth." Here you will explore what it takes to write words you can stand beyond to the point that they are undeniable on stage.
