Cavan Sinfonia Orchestra

Cavan Sinfonia Orchestra enjoyed a full and appreciative audience at Presentation Arts Centre, Enniscorthy as guests of Aileen Donohoe.

Cavan Sinfonia Orchestra conducted by Sue King performed with Aileen Donohoe to a very appreciative audience in Enniscorthy, Co Wexford.   This was the Orchestra's first visit to Wexford.   Aileen Donohoe invited them to perform with her as a result of their concert at Ramor Theatre, Virginia in 2015.   An accomplished singer and musical theatre performer, Aileen performed popular classics, musical numbers and a few of her personal favourites from Doris Day.

Cavan Sinfonia orchestra invited Elaine Agnew to conduct her piece Touchwood commissioned especially for the Orchestra in 2015 by Cavan County Council.    Speaking after the performance Elaine said "I am thrilled with this performance of Touchwood, it is challenging for the Orchestra to perform in a new venue.   Some of the orchestra couldn't travel but the members adapted and were able to accommodate the different instruments through their inventiveness and musicality.   They were tremendous".    Sue King a native of County Wexford was pleased to bring the Orchestra who are playing together five years.   "Touring and performing to new audiences with guest musicians is a learning experience for us all.   We received a great reaction here today.   Elaine has invited us to perform with her in Belfast later this year and we are looking forward to that."

The Trad Splinter group of eight of the younger members of the audience wowed with their traditional set.   The Orchestra has members who are accomplished traditional players and Sue has encouraged this young group to take centre stage with their set.    The recital concluded with an arrangement of Cavan Girl by Eileen Tackney performed by Aileen Donohoe accompanied by the Orchestra.
