The Listening Rooms Opportunity for Singer/Songwriters as part of ‘Drumlinia Music Week’
Cavan County Council Arts Office with partners Cavan Institute and Don Mescall, award winning singer/songwriter, are hosting the first ‘Drumlinia Music Industry Week’ in October 2023.
This event will close on Saturday 14th October in Cavan Town with ‘The Listening Rooms’; a series of spaces dedicated to singer/songwriters to play a 20-minute set to an appreciative audience and be recorded live as part of the inaugural ‘Drumlinia Music Industry Week’.
“The concept behind the listening room harks back to the early acoustic performances in the 60’s in the Greenwich Coffee Houses in New York, such as the Cafe Wha? on McDougal Street and Gerde's Folk City at 11 West 4th Street. Singers including Fred Neil, Richie Havens, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen, Paul Simon, and many others played for a few dollars to small crowds who came to listen to new songs. The performer/artist/songwriter then discovered which songs worked for them and thus unfolded the start of their careers…
If you are a singer or musician and want to be heard as part of Drumlinia Music Industry Week, send us your details on the online application form with a sample of your work. An independent adjudication panel will select the artists who will be included in the Listening Rooms on October 14th. A CD/recording of each of the selected artists will be available after the event with one featured song from each participating artist included.
