Cavan County Council Arts Office and Townhall Cavan are delighted to announce two Cavan Visual Arts Studio Awards in 2023. The Cavan Visual Arts Studio Awards are aimed at supporting professional visual artists whose work explores questions and ideas that are of compelling interest to our life and times. We are interested in hearing from ambitious, innovative visual artists who work in any medium and who can demonstrate the need, benefit, and value of a Cavan Visual Arts Studio Award at Townhall Cavan. Artists must use the studio space and will be motivated by one of the following:
1) Themes on contemporary culture(s).
2) County Cavan – its borders, character, cultural identity, and memory.
3) Exploring interdisciplinary practice.
The Visual Arts Studio Award will provide the selected artists with:
1) a visual arts studio at Townhall, Cavan for a three-month period between April and September 2023.
2) a bursary award of €6,000.
To establish your eligibility for this opportunity, we will be assessing your application on the following criteria. Please ensure that you have addressed each of these criteria in this application.
Criteria for eligibility:
Artists must demonstrate a need to access the Townhall’s Visual Arts Studio Space and commit to using it. (Pass/Fail Criteria)
Applicants must be undertaking research and development in a new area of practice or innovation.
Applicants must respond to one of the following: themes of contemporary culture, County Cavan-its borders, character, cultural identity and memory or exploring interdisciplinary practice.
Successful candidates are asked to provide an artist talk on their residency and acknowledge this opportunity in future publications and catalogues.
